It was an emotional moment for 21-year-old Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola, an Undergraduate of the University of Lagos, who busted into tears, prayed and recited Qur'anic verses as she won the 2013 edition of World Muslim Beauty Pageant held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
She said it was “thanks to almighty Allah” that she had won the contest. She received 25 million rupiah ($2,200) and trips to Makkah and India as prizes.
The 20 finalists were all required to wear headscarves, but contestants from six countries were covered from head to foot. They were judged on how well they recited Qur'anic verses and their views on Islam in the modern world.
