An unidentified transgender man gave birth to a baby boy in Neukoellin district of Berlin after he became pregnant through a sperm donor. This makes him the first male in Germany to give birth, Berlin newspapers reported.
He was born a woman and has been taking hormone replacement therapies to change gender but retained all female reproductive organs.
The baby was delivered at home with a midwife. He insisted on a home birth because he did not want to be listed as a mother on any hospital documents as hospitals are legally required to write the name of the mother in their records when a child is born in Germany.
On government records the new father, is registered as a man. The child does not officially have a mother, only a father.
