A Burundian woman, Aisha Uwimana, was on Thursday arrested with 2.39 kg
of heroin by officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at
the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. She flew into Nigeria
from Burundi via Rwanda Air.
According to NDLEA spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the drug was concealed in the suspect’s hand luggage.
He said; “A Burundian, Uwimana Aisha, had in her hand luggage two parcels of powdery substance, weighing 2.39 kg., which tested positive for heroin.
“The suspect, in her statement, claimed the bag was given to her by her Nigerian boyfriend in Tanzania,’’ it said.
“He promised to marry me and take care of my only daughter; we were to come to Nigeria together but he later said that he would join me the following day.
“I trusted him because he was nice to me,” the statement quoted the suspect as saying.
Mitchell also reported that the case was under thorough investigation.
