Lagos Plane Crash Update: BLACK BOX RECOVERED - Aviation Minister

It was a black Thursday morning in Lagos State, Nigeria, as a small passenger plane, conveying the remains of a former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, 20 passengers and crew members crashed immediately after take-off from the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

In a statement by the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, she assured the public that investigation into the cause of the crash will be thorough.

The manifest of the plane carrying the remains of former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, 20 passengers  and crew has been released. The 23-year-old aircraft belonging to Associated Aviation Limited crashed  less than a minute after take-off from the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

FAAN and the AIB  said the 20 comprised  13 passengers and seven   crew members, which included two pilots, two cabin crew members and three  engineers. See list below.

Small Passenger Plane Crash Lands At Lagos Airport

A small passenger plane belonging to Associated Airlines is said to have crash landed at Lagos Airport. 

"There's a lot of smoke coming from the runway, but we can't get access to it. There are firefighters rushing to the scene," Rasaki Rhakod, who runs a car service from the airport, told Reuters.

The plane had 27 people onboard with 20 passengers and 7 crew members. Yakubu Dati, coordinating general manager of Nigeria's airports authority, told Reuters on the scene that at least five passengers had been killed.

Several local radio stations and Channels TV reported that the plane was carrying a family and the body of former governor of Ondo state Olusegun Agagu to his funeral.

Exact Number of casualties cannot be  ascertained at the moment. I will keep you posted.
