Football Madness - Manchester United Fan Jumps To His Death Following The Team's Defeat To Newcastle

Unbelievable was the first word that came out of my mouth when I read this story myself. Yeah...football is awesome and all but do we attach too much emotion to the round leather game?

While Newcastle fans and rival teams in the English Premier League were busy celebrating United's defeat to Newcastle, an emotional Manchester United fan in far away Kenya decided to take his own life as he jumped to his death from the 7th floor of an apartment block.  The incident happened minutes after his favourite team lost 0-1 to the Magpies at Old Trafford on Saturday night.

An eyewitness who spoke to reporters said 28-year-old John Macharia (deceased) could not take a second successive home defeat as his favourite EPL team, Manchester United, plunged 13 points behind league leaders, Arsenal.

According to Nairobi County Police commander Benson Kibu, Macharia died instantly after hitting the ground with his head.

He said; "I confirm that we received the news of a young man who could not stand to see his Manchester United team lose, and instead decided he can die for the sake of a team that is miles far away in Europe.

"We are treating this matter as a case and since this is not the first time we have received such cases, I wish to advise football fans in our country to rather support Harambee Stars than those teams in England who does not recognize them," Kibui said when confirming the Saturday incident a day later.
